SPECIFICS IN OUTLINING SANITARY PROTECTION ZONES FOR ENTERPRISES IN THE FAR NORTH

The author considers the issue of determining the size of the sanitary protection zone of nuclear facilities located in the Far North in the permafrost area. The relevance of this topic is due to the fact that the existing legislation does not distinguish requirements to sanitary protection zones for nuclear facilities located in the southern territory of the Russian Federation and those located in the Far North. In the Russian legislation, regulations are issued separately for industrial enterprises of radiation and non-radiation industrial enterpris- es. However, it is impossible to apply the same approach to such diverse enterprises as mining uranium, pro- cessing uranium, uranium enrichment, fabrication of fuel elements, as well as of enterprises for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. All these enterprises are the objects of nuclear energy use, though of different purposes. The dimensions of the sanitary protection zone also depend on a number of factors, the main of which being certainly geological factors (tectonic conditions, rocks and their fractures, hydrogeolog- ical and microbiological conditions, etc.). In addition, it is necessary to take into account the forecast for changes in natural and technogenous conditions of the object with a particularly careful analysis of the impact of technogenesis.
