Geoecological footprint is a necessary component in assessing the degree of ecological safety of urban space. An approach to its assessment is proposed, which is determined by the amount of economic damage when hazardous geoenvironmental processes occur. Its testing in Russian cities with a population of more than 100 thousand people for the five most common hazardous natural processes has shown the comparability of the results obtained. The influence of natural and social features of cities on the size of the ecological footprint is confirmed. No dependence has been established between the damage in cites and urban area and population. The potential possibility of considering the geoecological footprint as an index of geoeclogical safety of cities is stated.

Key words: geoecological footprint, geoecological safety, comparative analysis
